Alpha-Stim uses cranial electrotherapy stimulation, or CES, to deliver a small electrical current through earclip electrodes. TMS of Austin can discuss whether this prescription-device option for anxiety or insomnia belongs in your care plan.
When contacting us, tell us which service you’re interested in and your preferred day and time. Our team will review your request and contact you to confirm the next step. Submitting a request does not book an appointment.
What it is intended to treat
In the United States, Alpha-Stim AID is indicated for anxiety and insomnia. The Alpha-Stim M model also has pain-treatment applications. U.S. indications differ from those in other countries; Alpha-Stim is not FDA-cleared for depression in the United States. Ask which model and indication are being considered for you.
Suitability and safety come first
Alpha-Stim is not suitable for people with implanted pacemakers or implanted or wearable defibrillators. Safety during pregnancy has not been established. Tell your clinician about medical conditions, devices, medicines, and previous reactions before use. Possible adverse effects include dizziness, headache, and skin irritation or electrode burns.
What happens before and during use?
A consultation is the place to discuss your symptoms, previous care, goals, and whether CES is appropriate. If prescribed, ask for device-specific instruction on electrode placement, settings, cleaning, session length, and frequency. Do not choose settings from general website information.
Use involves earclip electrodes while the device delivers stimulation. Do not drive or operate dangerous machinery during treatment; restrictions may continue afterward. Follow the instructions for your device and contact the prescribing clinician if symptoms worsen or you experience side effects.
Expectations and follow-up
Response is individual, and this is not a guaranteed or immediate solution. Agree with your clinician on what to track, such as sleep or anxiety symptoms, and when to review whether continued use is worthwhile. A device should not replace reassessment when the treatment plan is not meeting your needs.
Practical questions and cost
Confirm how a device would be obtained, whether instruction and follow-up are included, the cost of electrodes or supplies, and any return or rental terms before committing. The website does not establish a device price or promise insurance reimbursement. The office can clarify its current arrangements.
Alpha-Stim questions
Is this the same as Deep TMS?
No. Alpha-Stim CES uses electrical current through earclip electrodes. Deep TMS uses magnetic pulses delivered by a treatment coil in a clinic. They have different indications and screening requirements.
Can I stop my medication if I try Alpha-Stim?
Do not change prescribed medication on your own. Ask your clinician how a device would fit with your existing care.
Can anyone buy and start using it?
In the United States, Alpha-Stim is a prescription device. An evaluation and device-specific instructions are important before treatment begins.
